Man v. Wild

It’s official! Chicago Bears Wide Receiver Devin Hester is the faster animal on earth! After beating the previous title holder, the Cheetah, in a foot race Hester earned his spot in the animal kingdom as the fastest, most agile of them all!

In the wild, Cheetahs have been known to reach speeds of up to 75 mph so the thought of a mere man being able to beat one is pretty amazing! In addition to the Mr. Hester, Chris Johnson, a Running Back for the Tennessee Titans decided to put his wheels (figuratively) to the test against the fuzzy opponent. Needless to say, he didn’t win. A for effort though! Had he been a few steps faster he might’ve made it!

Back to the fastest guy in the league and now fastest being on the planet; psych! He didn’t win either. Technically Hester completed his laps first but didn’t legitimately win the race. He may be fast but Devin Hester isn’t 75+ mph kinda fast thus keeping the Cheetah #1 in the realm of speedy land animals. You’ll see what I mean in the video but Hester was given a pretty clear head start against his spotted foe and even then cut it pretty close when it came time to cross the finish line.

The race itself was staged at Busch Gardens in the heart of Florida as a segment on National Geographic Wild’s Big Cat Week which started yesterday. In knowing this, aside from ads here and there, the footage from this July race (and the results) were kept under wraps until it’s debut.

I’m not a Bears or Big Cat Week fan but this race was pretty fun to watch! It’s not every day you get to see two guys race a Cheetah! Check out the rest of the story as well as the video of this semi-amazing race at the link below courtesy of Complex. Enjoy!
