New Music! “Wrath of Caine” Mixtape, Pusha T

After much anticipation and a couple of random tracks here and there, Pusha T finally released his newest mixtape entitled Wrath of Caine. I’m going to tell you straight up, this isn’t the kind of hip-hop you listen to on your way to church. Before you judge, lets be honest I’m not the only one who does that, don’t front. But seriously, Pusha was definitely on some other shit with this mixtape and I’m not too sure what to make of it. I mean, Fear of God 2: Let Us Pray was my shit! Despite the puns here and there that album was pretty effin’ hot! So hot in fact that the minor religious references were so understated that it didn’t deflect my attention from the music. This shit though, I don’t know…

Normally, I’m not too big on religious allegories but with Pusha’s clever use of caine rather than Cain I guess I can’t get too upset; or so I thought. I don’t know how but with each passing mixtape Pusha manages to intertwine more religious references in his cutthroat lines. To refer to a girl as “angel face”  is eloquent and almost sweet (had he not said hoe before it), but just plain blasphemous to throw in shit like, “this shit sound like God don’t it?” and “call my phantom the Holy Ghost”. Ummm, yea. About that.

Anyway, moving past my biases I actually like “Wrath of Caine”. Like all of his previous albums/mixtapes Push chose to showcase his own talent by staying away from dozens of guest appearances; just a couple of drop in verses from Rick Ross, Wale and his buddy French Montana actually brought something to the tracks they were featured on which is always good (“Only You can Tell It” feat. Wale and “Trust You” feat. Kevin Gates are def favs by the way). Like I said, its hella raw [no pun intended] like all of his modern-day music but still listenable. The beats were nothing to write home about and the subject matter was on par with all of brother Pusha’s shit but still likable. I guess his knack for telling the timeless tale of a dope boys hustle combined with his clever punch lines and rude boy attitude makes it work. I wont say love it, but this will defiantly get some play time on my iPod on my way to work in the morning when I’m in a “fuck this and fuck you” mood. With that being said, here’s the download below for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!
