Sorry I’ve been away for so long. I’ve been super busy with work, school, Army school and prepping to pack up and move out (more about that in a separate post).
This morning I was reminded that on this day in 1997 one of the greatest rappers hip-hop has ever know was taken away from us far before his time. In my opinion, The Notorious B.I.G was one of the best rappers to ever pick up a mic. Period. I remember jammin’ to Biggie when I was a little girl; “Notorious Thugs” and “Victory” were my absolute favorite songs! I remember boppin’ around the house listening to “Life After Death” and trying my damnedest to learn all of his lyrics. Although he best buddy turned arch nemesis 2Pac is my favorite rapper, I’ve always had mad love for Biggie. I still regard him as one of the greatest rappers of all time. How many rappers can pen an amazing verse as well as kill a freestyle? Name another (I know of one and only one) rapper that can seamlessly flip from dark rhymes about life and death to motivating tracks like “Juicy”?
It really saddens me that he was killed. I was about seven when it happened and although I was a little sad, I didn’t see the true sorrow behind the story until I got much older. I know there is a lot of hatred in this cold and cruel world, but why would you take someone elses life? And for what, because he was a rapper? Because he was succesful, maybe? That’s so stupid! I understand that not everyone doesn’t believe in God or follow the law of the Bible but why on earth would you end a life that you didn’t begin? After he passed away he left a wife and kids behind. Did that mean nothing to you Mr. Killer? I’m pretty sure whatever asshole pulled the trigger wouldn’t appreciate it if he was on the receiving end of the barrel that night, so why would you do that to someone else? Let us remember what my Lord and savior taught; Do unto others as you would have done unto you (Luke 6:13). Keep that in mind the next time you want to shoot someone or perform some other act of ignorance or senseless violence. Ok, that was my PSA for the week. Moving on…
In remembrance of Biggie, Complex decided to compile a list of Biggie’s top fifty songs. I have a couple of disagreement but for the most part, this list is pretty on point! Below is the link for your reading pleasure!
